The Café des Amis at Maison Smith is the ideal place for a wholesome lunch or snack in convivial surroundings: sandwiches, hot meals, hot and cold beverages, beer and wine, as well as sweet treats and our famous organic fair-trade hot chocolate.

The Maison Smith is a public building owned by the Ville de Montréal that houses Les amis de la montagne, a registered charitable organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of Mont Royal through community involvement and environmental education. A heritage building constructed in 1858, the house is located in the heart of Mont-Royal Park, halfway between the Lac aux Castors and the Grand Chalet.
On the main floor, you can find our welcome and information service, nature boutique, the Café des Amis and our permanent exhibition entitled Mont Royal: A Territory to Discover. On the second floor, the house has two freshly renovated rooms available for rent for a variety of activities. All revenues derived from room rentals are reinvested in activities and conservation projects organized on the mountain by Les amis de la montagne.

Service counter with refrigerator and sink.
Audio-visual system available upon request for an additional fee (screen, projector and sound system). The leaseholder must provide the portable computer.
Not included: kitchenware, utensils and tablecloths.
Please note that rooms are located on the second floor with adjacent washrooms; there is no elevator.

The new Mont Royal exhibition is displayed throughout historic Maison Smith, inviting visitors to discover the mountain's historic, landscape and built heritage, as well as its flora and fauna. Through dynamic exhibits, historic photos and mural illustrations, artefacts, audio-visual elements, interactive games and touch-screens, "Mont Royal, A Territory to Discover" offers visitors the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the mountain territory prior to heading outdoors. Free.
Mount Royal Month is a month of activities dedicated to the discovery and conservation of the natural environment and the exploration of the many facets of the mountain. Please join us!
Tree planting: The goal for 2012 is to plant a total of 2,000 trees and shrubs and involve 1,400 volunteers in our actions

All proposed activities are supervised by professionals and are in line with a scientific, research-based process aimed at increasing knowledge of the natural environment and intervention methods for its conservation.

Les amis de la montagne’s public forum takes to the streets to explore the site of the Royal Victoria Hospital. Presented by Bruce Allan, MOAQ, MOAA, FIRAC, Associé principal, Le Groupe Arcop, participants will discover the history of the hospital and the heritage to be found on this site.

Joanne Burgess, history professor and director of the Institut du patrimoine at UQAM presents an exploration of the Rue Peel and its inhabitants around 1880, in a time where the Square Mile was the most prestigious bourgeois neighbourhood in Canada. The conference will be followed by a guided walk by Les amis de la montagne to observe the evolution of the city through its changing landscape, viewed from the Kondiaronk lookout. Presented in French.

Presented by Valérie Janssen and Theresa Gabos, Master’s students in archeology at the Université de Montréal. This lecture plunges you into the heart of the mountain’s history as you discover Mont Royal’s role in the life of Montrealers through its ancient landscapes from De Maisonneuve’s planting of the cross to the 20th Century.
